A Community Event that reaches out to those who have lost loved ones, friends or colleagues to suicide.

Supporting those bereaved by suicide during Suicide Prevention Week

Bennetts Funeral Directors is proud to support Smashing The Stigma 2026, a community event dedicated to supporting family members, friends and colleagues who have been bereaved by suicide.

This will be the third Smashing The Stigma event, once again taking place during Suicide Prevention Week. This year, the event will be held at a new venue and on a weekday, as we appreciate that, for some people, a weekend event can encroach too much on other commitments.

The aim remains the same: to create a safe, welcoming and compassionate space where people affected by suicide loss know they are not alone.

A safe and welcoming space for support

The event brings together organisations that can offer a listening ear, practical guidance, compassionate support and signposting to further services.

For those who wish to take part, there will be opportunities to listen to speakers during the event. There will also be the opportunity to take part in a reflective service.

There is no pressure to speak or share unless you feel comfortable doing so. The event is simply there to offer support, understanding and connection for anyone who may need it.

Organisations offering support

We are delighted that support is once again being offered by Renew Counselling, Gamblers Anonymous, Mind and Samaritans, who are attending for their third year.

We are also pleased to welcome new attendees, including Legend on the Bench, a relatively new charity that has already made quite an impact.

The organisations attending have offered valued support in previous years, and their presence will surely make a difference again. These events often lead to meaningful conversations, moments of reflection and opportunities for people to share if they wish to.

A wide range of support organisations will be
present on the day, including:

• Andy’s Man Club
• The Alzheimer’s Society
Legend On The Bench
• The Craig Tyler Trust
• Mind
Papyrus – Prevention of Young Suicide
• Survivors of Bereavement Through Suicide (SOBS)
• Renew Counselling
Samaritans
• Amparo
• GA (Gamblers Anonymous)
• And several other community partners
