Home ยป Smashing the Stigma 2025 Community Event

A Community Event that reaches out to those who have lost loved ones, friends or colleagues to suicide.ย ย

As part of Suicide Prevention Week 2025, local organisations are once again coming together to host Smashing the Stigma โ€” a community event offering support, conversation, and connection for anyone affected by suicide.

An opportunity to share, inform and support

Following the success of the first event in 2024, which was deeply valued by attendees, Smashing the Stigma will return on Saturday 13th September 2025, from 12:00pm to 4:00pm, at Butterfly Meadow, Shenfield, near Brentwood in Essex CM15 9AN.
The afternoon is open to those who have lost loved ones, friends, or colleagues to suicide, as well as those who work in support roles โ€” such as within the NHS, education, clergy, community care, or funeral services. Itโ€™s an opportunity to meet others, share experiences, and connect with local organisations that offer help and guidance.

How the Event Began

The idea for Smashing the Stigma was sparked by a local minister who reached out to Bennetts Funeral Directors after experiencing a personal loss. Their suggestion of a collaborative event provided the catalyst for what organisers had long hoped to address โ€” the often-silent grief and trauma that surrounds suicide.

What to Expect

This is a safe and inclusive space for those affected by suicide. Attendees will be able to:

โ€ข Talk to others who understand what theyโ€™re going through

โ€ข Take part in prayer or quiet reflection if they wish

โ€ข Access information and speak to support professionals

โ€ข Engage in age-appropriate activities designed for all ages

A wide range of support organisations will be
present on the day, including:

โ€ข Andyโ€™s Man Club
โ€ข The Craig Tyler Trust
โ€ข Mind
โ€ข Papyrus โ€“ Prevention of Young Suicide
โ€ข Survivors of Bereavement Through Suicide (SOBS)
โ€ข Renew Counselling
โ€ข Samaritans
โ€ข Amparo
โ€ข GA (Gamblers Anonymous)
โ€ข And several other community partners
