Tell Us Once, a government-run service that informs public departments such as HMRC and the DVLA, and Life Ledger, which helps notify over 1,000 private companies, these tools are created to save time, reduce stress, and prevent unnecessary correspondence.

You will also find clear guidance on how to use both services following a bereavement.

Using the Tell Us Once service

Tell Us Once is a government run service that lets you report a death to most government organisations in one go. It does not notify private companies such as banks, building societies, or household bills. Normally the registrar will give you a code to use online when you register the death. There is no cost.

Life Ledger

Life Ledger is a free to use service for reporting a death to over 1,000 private companies such as banks, financial institutions, energy and water suppliers, mobile phone companies and much more. It is also free to use.
