Olympic Walk May 12th 2011
On a bright sunny May 12th we met up at Stratford Station for our Olympic Walk, there were 26 of us in total, including our very knowledgeable guide Jane Keane. We were so lucky with the weather once again, and although it threatened to rain, it kept away from us; may be the sun does actually shine on the righteous! We walked to the ‘View Tube’ which sadly was closed on the day, we were though able to see at fairly close proximity the main Olympic Stadium and in the distance the Swimming Pool and Basketball venues, the regeneration of the whole area is incredible. There still seems to be so much to do in just over a year. We walked and walked, eventually to Three Mills where we stopped for lunch, what a lovely area, it is to be recommended, so historic. Three Mills is the largest tidal watermill in the world, there are Sunday Tours, please look at the website www.housemill.org.uk. Thereafter we walked and walked again back in to Stratford to visit the Martyr’s Memorial in St John’s churchyard. All in all a fascinating day, if weary day.
