Traditional Horse Drawn Carriage and Hearse

Since they were re-introduced in the 1980s, our traditional horse drawn carriage funerals are proving to be an extremely popular option with clients, when arranging a funeral. They add distinction and elegance to funeral processions, making your loved ones last journey one that will be forever remembered and cherished. When combined with a funeral fleet it is truly a site to behold

This 19th century Landau classic Horse drawn carriage pulled by a pair of matching horses offers a prestigious element to the funeral procession. The horse drawn carriage, coupled with our beautiful Dutch Friesian Horses (more commonly known as Belgian Blacks) creates a simply stunning end result, guaranteed to stop the traffic and provide a good ‘send-off’.

The Horses

Bennetts horses are very highly trained and enjoy their work to the full. Both the Friesian stallions (the Blacks) and the Irish sports horses (the Greys) all enjoy being ridden or just letting off steam in the field as much as they do their carriage work. It’s important they have other things to do when they’re not Working.

The Carriage

Our horse drawn carriage is an original Landau built in Scotland in 1860. Purchased in 2002, we have worked hard to restore it to its current pristine condition so that this perfect carriage can be used to transport your loved one to their place of rest.

The meticulous care and attention to detail of the original craftsman, the laborious restoration and day to day upkeep of the classic carriage, mean that it is as regal and beautiful today as when it was first used over 140 years ago.

The Coachman

Driving and turning out carriage horses is no small task and requires precision, patience and years of experience. The coachman who will drive your loved one to their final place of rest previously worked with the Queens horses at the Royal Mews. He ensures the highest standards of turn-out ; and you can be sure that the procession and funeral transport will be in the most competent of hands.
