There are many practical issues to manage when someone dies.
The period immediately after the death of a loved one is not the time anyone would choose to deal with the many pressing matters that will require immediate attention, such as tax, legal and administrative matters concerning their affairs and estate. Unfortunately, however, sorting these issues out, is an essential task.
Essex County Council operates a ‘Tell us once” initiative, a free service, it aims to make things easier by allowing family to pass on the information to Essex County Council just once – and they will tell government and council services on your behalf . You can contact the council on 0845 743 0430.
Regarding any changes in circumstances, there are various grants and allowances available from the state, to the remaining family, if they find that the financial circumstances have now altered, this may be help towards funeral expenses, rent/council tax rebates, widow’s pension etc. Your local Town Hall, Citizen’s Advice Bureau or D.S.S/DWP office will be able to advise you.
