Bennetts local Funeral Directors Tribute to Gary Ebsworth

It is with a heavy heart, that we at Bennetts the local Funeral Directors for Essex, remember our much loved and valued, friend and work colleague Gary Ebsworth, who sadly passed away earlier in the year.

Gary began working at Bennetts Undertakers in 2001, so impressed were we with him, he was offered a job almost on the spot, initially as a limousine driver, and coffin bearer. It wasn’t long before we realised that this competent and amiable young man was destined for greater things, and so Gary moved into the office, to begin training in all aspects of local Funeral Undertaking.

In 2005, Gary became Bennetts Funeral Masonry and Memorial Stonemasonry Manager, dealing with all aspects of memorial masonry, from bespoke stone mason customer orders, to applications to erect headstones and gravestones within a Diocese.

Gary was incredibly hardworking and conscientious, going the extra mile for all the Bennetts Essex families who came under his care. This was clearly evident in the many letters of thanks, and cards of appreciation that he received from them over the years that he worked here.

Those who have played Bowls with Gary or been on quiz teams with him will know he had rather a competitive streak, and although magnanimous in defeat, he would rise to the challenge, if an extra point might have been gained, and his knowledge of all manner of things was quite incredible.

A true family man at heart, Gary was married to his wonderful wife Lorraine for 34 years and was the proud father of their son Mark and daughter Sarah, also grandfather to Sarah’s firstborn, Madison. Gary spoke frequently of his family and how very much they were loved.

Diagnosed last year with ocular melanoma, Gary thought, at one point, after treatment, that he was all clear. Unfortunately this was not to be, when he was told in October 2014 that the cancer had returned, facing this diagnosis with bravery and resolute, Gary was determined to fight and recover, tragically it was not to be, and Gary passed away surrounded by his loving family on the 2nd February this year.

We at Bennetts local Funeral Directors, are proud to be able to say that Gary Ebsworth, for 14 happy years, was part of our team, and although we all miss him very much, we are grateful for those years we had working with him, for the laughs, the advice and the honesty he brought into work with him every day.

Gary Ebsworth, rest in peace.
