Bennetts Funeral Directors Latest Newsletter September 2014
Bereavement Support Groups Newsletter
Welcome to Bennetts Funerals September newsletter. The summer has gone by in a blur except notably the internet craze featuring a roster of A-list celebrities and business leaders drenching themselves in buckets of ice and water, all to raise awareness of Motor Neuron Disease (also known as AIS, or Lou Gehrig’s Disease), which affects around 5,000 people in the UK. Perhaps you took up the challenge, too? If you have a film of your challenge why not like our Facebook page; https://www.facebook.com/bennetts.funeral.directors and share your video.
This month we have some reminders about forthcoming trips and some new events taking place this month.
Memory Walk for Alzheimer’s Society – 28 September
Bennetts are proud to support the Brentwood Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walk to be held at Thorndon Country Park South on Sunday 28th September 2014. Jane Bennett (below) has been volunteering with the charity for the past three years, whilst Claire Hammond recently joined in 2013. The Brentwood Memory Walk has raised over £20k over the last two years and we are looking to make 2014 even more successful. Entries online to date are over 200 and we are hopeful that more will enrol on the day.
Bennetts and the team all supporting Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walk
The walk starts at 11am with registration from 10am at the Pavilion near Thorndon Country Park South car park, CM13 3LW. There will be two walks available, 1 mile or 9k and pets are welcome. A surfaced track connects the wooded and heathland areas of Thorndon North with the more open parkland of Thorndon South. The path runs through the Old Park, an area owned and managed as a traditional wood pasture by the Woodlands Trust. The park contains rare areas of heathland which are being carefully managed and restored in the most traditional and effective manner- by a hard working herd of sheep and goats! It’s also a great place to spot a wide variety of butterflies, including some rarities, and the rangers run an extensive list of events throughout the year for all ages and interests.
The walk will include some rough surfaces which may be slippery in wet weather. Please ensure you wear appropriate footwear.
Please note there is a parking charge of £3 for the day at the Thorndon South car park. Further information and on line registration http://www.memorywalk.org.uk/brentwood
Bennetts Funerals are running a tombola so if you are unable to take part in the walk you can still donate gifts to the tombola.
The Grief Journey – starts Tuesday 7 October
The Grief Journey is a free six week structured course for anyone coping with a loss, and would benefit from some guidance and help. It will be run by Jane Bennett, who is a trained facilitator, aided by Lu Hunt who is also a fully trained member of Bennetts Funerals staff.
The next course starts on Tuesday 7th October 6.00pm – 7.30pm. Refreshments will be available from 5.45pm onwards. We have chosen this time in the hope than anyone driving will be able to avoid the rush hour traffic, and those working may be able to leave in time to get there. The sessions will take place at The Grange, Queens Road, Brentwood. Parking is available at the Cathedral of St Helens which is opposite the Grange.
If you are interested in attending please call Lu on 01277 624289 so that she can send a registration form to you, we will need this returned before the course commences.
