Bennetts Funeral Directors and Undertaker Services of Brentwood Win The Brentwood Christmas Window Competition 2014 with ‘The Christmas Truce’
OF THE 18 shops that entered this year’s Christmas Window Display Competition, run by Brentwood Borough Council, the Renaissance Group and the Chamber of Commerce, four shops in Brentwood and Shenfield received winner and runner-up prizes.
The results were announced on December 15 with Bennetts Funeral Directors and Undertaker Services winning first place in Brentwood and Barnado’s charity shop was the winner in Shenfield.
Runner-up in Brentwood was antiques shop Neil Graham Interiors and Mr Simms Olde Sweet Shoppe won the runner-up prize in Shenfield.
Mayor of Brentwood, Councillor Vicky Davies, said: “It was an absolute delight to judge all of the beautiful displays and the competition was a difficult one to judge.
“The types of displays were very diverse and the winners were outstanding.
“I felt that the winner in Brentwood had the most unique interpretation and it was especially moving because of its tribute to all who fell in the fighting.”
The window displays were judged according to the entrants’ use of materials, colour, lights and overall impact.
Alan Jefcoate, vice-chairman of the Renaissance Group, said: “The results for the winners were actually unanimous between the judging parties, with Brentwood receiving the same results from all parties.”
The competition was designed to promote businesses in the area and increase their footfall during November and December.
The winning businesses received a certificate and a bottle of wine to enjoy at their Christmas party.
