Arthur Bennett Memorial Trophy
The annual bowls competition took place at Brentwood and Central Essex Bowls Club on Sunday 5th June 2011.
Ten clubs took part, each sending two mixed rinks (teams of four men and four ladies each). Each club plays five games of seven ends with 6 points for a win, 3 points for a draw and one point for each end won. This can sound complicated if you don’t play bowls!
It was the closest competition we have seen over the eight years it has been held, and with four or five teams still in with a chance of winning or being runners up going into the last game. It all depended on how the combined scores came in with the men’s and ladies team. The scores were very close with two teams tied on points, Warley Hill and Hutton Poplars.
The winners were decided on the number of shots scored with the Warley Hill being declared the winners. This is the second time Warley have won the competition in the last three years.
All the teams enjoyed a good days bowling and hopefully will put their names in the hat for next years competition.
