Another Challenge Completed by Bennetts Funerals Directors raising money for their chosen charity of the year the Alzheimer’s Society

On the 15th July 2012, a member of  Bennetts Funeral Directors of Brentwood and Billericay, Claire, completed a 100k/62 mile bike ride raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society Bennetts Funeral Directors chosen charity of the year 2012.

The challenge was to cycle a long route around some of the most beautiful villages and hamlets of northern Essex and eastern Hertfordshire. It was to be a tough challenge but  having the satisfaction of raising much needed funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s Society.

Starting from Bishops Stortford Football Club we went directly out of the busy market town of Bishops Stortford to the quiet village of Birchanger. From there we headed north through the beautiful village of Manuden to Clavering, where Jamie Oliver’s parents own “The Cricketers” pub. No we didn’t  stop for a quick pint though! heading east through Newport and on to the first well earned stop at Thaxted, about 20 miles into the ride.

After the stop, and a much needed cup of coffee and protein bar, we travelled around the Finchingfield loop. Finchingfield is reported to be the most photographed village in Essex, featuring on calendars, chocolate boxes, tea-towels, postcards and jigsaws. After a quick photo it’s back to Thaxted for the second stop, at about mile thirty eight. There lunch was provided, and very nice it was too before the last leg of our 100k route.

From Thaxted we now headed west again to Furneaux Pelham where another refreshment stop was available, this was around fifty three miles into the ride and North West of Bishop’s Stortford.  The final leg back into Bishop’s Stortford Football Club was through the beautiful villages of Upwick Green and Farnham. I would just like to add Essex and Hertfordshire are NOT as flat as I thought!

Thank you to all those that sponsered me and I can confirm that todate we have raised £635.00.  Further donations can be made at
