Your local funeral home in Essex offering bereavement support

The Bereavement Support Group was formed in January 2007, and has gone from strength to strength. There are no trained counsellors at the group, just people of all ages, in a likewise situation helping and supporting each other, everyone is made to feel very welcome.

The Brentwood Bereaved Parents Support Group started in June 2011 following a call from a lady whose children had died.  Several families who we knew had lost children were contacted to establish if they too were interested in meeting others who had also lost children, in order that they would be able to share their experiences, and in doing so help and support one another.  Since the first meeting we have not publicised this group or actively sought any other parents to come along, however, this small group feel that encouraging others to come along could benefit those who already attend together with any who may wish to join.

Annual Memorial Service. On an annual basis we hold a memorial service at the Regimental Chapel at Great Warley, members of the group have, in the past helped with the service in so far providing poems and readings and talking about their experiences. The service is non-denominational and anyone is welcome to attend.

“Just a quick not to thank you and your helpers, for giving your time to the recent Bereavement Group. Surprisingly to me, I found it more helpful than one to one counselling.  Listening to people other than myself baring their souls gave me some comfort. Once again thanks for your time and effort, it was greatly appreciated.”
-Trevor, Brentwood“Following the loss of my beloved wife, I was completely lost. To be honest, I went along to the first meeting because a Bennett’s staff member had asked me to come along to the meeting and just ‘give it a try’.
I have not looked back since. The group have been wonderful to me, I have so many new friends, they all encouraged me to move into a smaller home and have helped me to settle in. I never thought I would laugh again but I have, thank you all so much”
